Card Access Systems
Card
Access Systems are actually security systems that monitor and
control access to buildings, network systems, accounts and even
homes. Because keys can be copied and used by virtually anyone, card
access is much more reliable at knowing who can get where and how.
From high security areas such as banks to something as private as
your own home, controlling access to specific areas is gaining
importance. Card access systems ensure that only those approved can
gain access, and can also be restricted to certain time periods.
There are several types of card access systems. The type you might
be most familiar with is ID card such as at fitness gyms or
wholesale warehouses. There are also the magnetic strip access cards
utilized at gyms, secure work environments and even time clocks.
Card access systems can also incorporate more than one type of
security in that portrait ID cards also contain microchips utilizing
a unique code. When this is held up against the reader, the code is
read and checked against a list of codes that have access. If the
code is on one of the lists then access will be granted. Because it
is also a portrait card, users can’t switch cards.
