Home Alarm Systems For Every Budget

Home alarm systems are made up of various components that will vary depending upon how complex the system is and whether it is activated by motion, pressure, noise or by a connection being broken when a door or window is opened. However complex the system, modern technology means that wiring can be kept to a minimum, and there is no need to disrupt your home or seamlessly fit one in your decor.

All home alarm systems have at least one keypad that allows you to arm and disarm the system, as well as a selection of sensors and a warning signal such as a siren and/or strobe lights. Some home alarm systems allow you to setup the alarm to provide an audible beep whenever a door or window is opened in your home, day or night. These allow you to know when people are coming in or going out of the home. This can be another way of detecting an unexpected intrusion, even when you don’t have the alarm system on (for example, if you are in bed at night and don’t have the alarm system on).

An alarm that is triggered when a door or window is opened is comprised of two sensors - one on the door/window and another on the frame - that allow an electric current to flow when the windows and doors are closed. When a window or door is opened, the circuit is broken and the alarm is triggered. The sensor on the door through which you usually enter will be programmed with a delay to give you time to deactivate the system.

Some home alarm systems use glass break detectors. These work in essentially the same way but have a noise sensor that triggers the alarm at the sound of breaking glass. Motion sensors use an infrared sensor to detect motion and can also be set to detect body heat so that harmless motion will not trigger the alarm. Pressure activated alarms consist of pads that trigger an alarm when a significant weight is applied, such as that of an intruder stepping on them. These are usually fitted beneath the flooring in a location that is a likely entry point.

There are home alarm systems to meet every need - to fit your budget and family needs.
